Sports Out Loud Becomes Compete: The Gay Sports Magazine

Sports Out Loud, the only print publication dedicated to the life of the gay athlete, will officially re-launch as Compete, The Gay Sports Magazine, it was announced last week. The first issue of the newly designed periodical debuts on newsstands with the January/Februay 2009 issue.
In addition to the newly launched print property, SOL will introduce a new interactive website on December 15. The new site will be found at www.competemag.com. Additionally, special subscription rates of $5 are available to customers who take advantage before December 15.
According to Out in America, publishers chose the new name after a conversation with legendary tennis champion Billie Jean King. King told SOL brass that her toughest competitor has always been herself.
The publishers now hope that the new moniker inspires athletes and non-athletes to succeed in conquering the challenges the face on and off the field.
